California Alcoholic Beverage Control Agents Will be Out Labor Day Weekend

ABC will visit licensed establishments to help with DUI prevention

Sacramento – The California Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control (ABC) today announced it will have agents out working to keep the public safe through enforcement of alcoholic beverage laws on Labor Day weekend. ABC Agents will visit ABC licensed businesses to ensure compliance and reduce alcohol service to obviously intoxicated patrons and persons under 21-years-old.

ABC reminds licensees to make sure their employees are checking identifications carefully to reduce underage drinking. The department also advises anyone of legal drinking age to help prevent DUI’s by designating a non-drinking driver before travelling to a location where alcohol is sold. Along with enforcement efforts, ABC relies on all licensees to follow the law.

“Improving overall safety in communities is a goal of the ABC,” says ABC Director Eric Hirata. “Californians can do their part to keep everyone safe by planning ahead and taking alternative transportation if they plan to drive somewhere and consume alcohol.”

The California Office of Traffic Safety (OTS) and the California Highway Patrol (CHP) remind anyone who knows people who may be planning to drink alcohol to have a plan to get people home safely.

ABC has also developed a free online training tool for alcoholic beverage licensees and servers that can help prevent DUI’s. There are over 93,000 ABC California licensees and over 47,000 locations where alcohol is sold for consumption on the premises.

ABC protects communities through education and by administering prevention and enforcement programs designed to increase compliance with California’s alcoholic beverage laws. ABC is a department of the Business, Consumer Services and Housing Agency.
