How to apply for the Estate Tasting Event Permit

This is an annual permit with an annual fee. This permit must be renewed each year with the licensee’s master license type. To apply for the Event Permit, the licensee must submit a completed Additional License/Permit Application Form (ABC-239) and send it, with the annual fee payment, to the nearest ABC office.

How to apply for the Estate Tasting Event Authorization

Once the Estate Tasting Event Permit is issued, the licensee can apply for an Estate Tasting Event Authorization by submitting a completed Event Tasting Event Authorization Application From (ABC-215-ETE) and a Supplemental Diagram From (ABC-253). Payment must be submitted with the application forms. A separate authorization must be requested for each event. Estate Tasting Event Authorizations are limited to no more than thirty-six (36) total event days, per licensee, each calendar year.

Event Authorization

An Estate Tasting Event Authorization is what permits the licensee to exercise its tasting room privileges for wine manufactured by or for the winegrower at specified locations for the duration of the event. A separate authorization must be requested for each event. Estate Tasting Event Authorizations are limited to no more than thirty-six (36) total days each calendar year.

Estate Tasting Event Authorizations must be submitted to the nearest ABC office at least three (3) days before the event, but no more than ninety (90) days before the event. Applications that are submitted outside of this timeframe may not be processed. In addition to Form ABC-215-ETE, a Supplemental Diagram (Form ABC-253) which clearly identifies where the event is being held, must be submitted.

The fee for an Estate Tasting Event Authorization is separate from the annual Estate Tasting Event Permit fee. When the same event is two or more consecutive days, submit a single Form ABC-215-ETE. For dates that are not consecutive, please submit a separate Form ABC-215-ETE for each date. Payment for the event authorization must be included with your Form ABC-215-ETE.

Fees for single-day events are non-refundable. For consecutive day events, the fees for the first day are nonrefundable. Fees for subsequent days may be refunded if the event is canceled. To request a refund, you must submit a written request to the Department prior to the event date explaining why the fees should be refunded.

Location of Events

An Estate Tasting Event Authorization authorizes the winegrower to sell wine for consumption at either at a property adjacent to their licensed premises or at a nonadjacent vineyard. The event location must be owned by or under the control of the winegrower. Only wine manufactured by or for the winegrower can be served at the event.

It is recommended that licensees check with local city and county agencies if they require approval prior to the event. If there is a local requirement to obtain approval from a city and/or county agency and that agency does not grant the authorization, ABC’s event authorization will become void and is nonrefundable.

Other Legal Requirements

At all approved events, licensees may exercise only those privileges authorized by their license. Licensees must comply with all provisions of the ABC Act. Any violation may be grounds for the suspension or revocation of the license or permit, or both, as though the violation occurred at the master licensed premises.

This license type is subject to Responsible Beverage Service (RBS) requirements and requires alcohol servers and managers of alcohol servers to be RBS certified.
