ABC Awarded Grant for Recording Artists Against Drunk Driving (RADD)

RADD will promote Road Safety messages on California College Campuses

Sacramento – The California Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control (ABC) has announced it will administer a grant for the Recording Artists Against Drunk Driving (RADD) in the effort to reduce impaired driving tragedies. The grant will boost community outreach efforts by RADD to increase safety on California roads and highways.

The grant was awarded to ABC by the California Office of Traffic Safety (OTS) through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). Through this grant, RADD will hold over 100 events on California college campuses during the year to educate students about the dangers of impaired driving.

“We at RADD are extremely grateful for ABC and OTS’ continued support,” says RADD President, Erin Dugan Meluso. “We look forward to an exciting schedule of campus activities supported by emerging recording artists and influencers to encourage the college and bar-going demographic, and our young Marines, to practice responsible driving and road safety.”

Thanks to the Office of Traffic Safety and the Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control, RADD is now active on 60 college campuses in California, educating, and encouraging students to make a safe plan before they head out because drinking and driving is not an option. RADD developed a message in the last year “Swipe Right on a Safe Ride Home” that has been displayed on posters, billboards, and other locations at dozens of college campuses, and on social media, encouraging students to “have fun, plan ahead” with a designated sober driver, ride share, taxi service or alternate form of transportation.

Saying Yes to the first back-to-school party? swipe right on a safe ride home.

“The more education and discussion about developing a plan to get young Californians home safe, the better,” said Jacob Appelsmith, Director of the California Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control. “ABC embraces the opportunity to work with RADD on creative ways to increase safety around college campuses.”

ABC’s mission is to provide the highest level of service and public safety to the people of the State through licensing, education, and enforcement. ABC is a Department of the Business, Consumer Services and Housing Agency.

Funding for this program was provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). ABC is a department of the Business, Consumer Services and Housing Agency.
