Canyon Inn in Yorba Linda Receives Suspension for
Furnishing Alcohol to Minors that Resulted in Fatality

Sacramento – The Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control (ABC) suspended the license of Canyon Inn in Yorba Linda for 35 days, beginning on June 20, 2025, after an investigation found that employees served alcohol to two minors, leading to a single vehicle traffic collision that resulted in the death of the passenger and major injuries to the driver.

Following a hearing, Canyon Inn was issued a 35-day suspension, which remained in effect through July 24, 2025, along with a revocation that is stayed for three years, meaning the license will be revoked if additional violations occur during that period.

ABC opened a TRACE (Target Responsibility for Alcohol Connected Emergencies) investigation immediately after the crash on December 16th, 2022, to determine the source of the alcohol the underage driver and passenger consumed. ABC agents determined a Canyon Inn doorman allowed the minors to enter the establishment with fake IDs, while an on-duty bartender at Canyon Inn furnished the alcoholic beverages to the two minors.

“One of ABC’s main priorities is to prevent minors from accessing alcohol,” said ABC Acting Director Frank Robles. “We’re reminding businesses and their employees to check IDs carefully and do their part to keep Californians safe.”

ABC sought disciplinary action against Canyon Inn’s alcoholic beverage license for furnishing alcoholic beverages to a minor causing great bodily injury or death, sale of alcoholic beverages to a minor, and permitting a minor under 21 years of age to enter and remain in licensed premises.

The TRACE program is made possible by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety (OTS) through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). The grant provides funding for ABC investigations of alcohol-related incidents that involve a person under the age of 21 causing great bodily injury or death, or anyone charged with vehicular manslaughter that was under the influence of alcohol regardless of their age.
