ABC Awarded $2.8 Million Grant to Reduce Underage Drinking

Sacramento — The California Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control (ABC) announced today it has been awarded a $2.8 million grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety (OTS), through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), to reduce underage drinking and protect communities across California.

Grant funding will also support 22 local law enforcement agencies with up to $30,000 each to combat alcohol-related harm within their communities through ABC education and enforcement programs.

“We’re truly thankful for the ongoing partnership and strong support from the Office of Traffic Safety and NHTSA,” said ABC Director Paul Tupy. “This grant gives us vital resources to make California communities safer for everyone.”

The grant will run through the end of September 2027. ABC funds several programs through the grant that directly benefit Californians, including Minor Decoy and Shoulder Tap operations, the Know Your Limit program, fake identification enforcement, compliance checks involving alcohol delivery services, designated special events where alcohol is served, high school and college special events, maximum holiday enforcement, Informed Merchants Preventing Alcohol-Related Crime Tendency (IMPACT) inspections, Licensee Education on Alcohol and Drug (LEAD) trainings and Target Responsibility for Alcohol-Connected Emergencies (TRACE) investigations.
