ABC Asks the Public and Licensees to Celebrate Responsibly this Labor Day Weekend
Sacramento – The Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control (ABC) reminds Californians to include a designated sober driver or rideshare service in their Labor Day weekend plans if they will be drinking.
“Our agents will be out this holiday weekend to help keep our communities safe,” said ABC Director Paul Tupy. “ABC licensed businesses can drastically help us improve safety by checking IDs closely and not serving obviously intoxicated patrons.”
Additionally, if you know someone has been drinking, don’t let them get behind the wheel. If you’re hosting a gathering, make sure all your guests have a sober ride home.
If you see an impaired driver, call 911 and always wear your seat belt.
Statistics from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) show that during the Labor Day weekend each year, there is a rise in alcohol-related vehicle crashes. According to NHTSA, 511 people nationwide died in traffic crashes on Labor Day weekend in 2023—36% of those crashes involved a drunk driver, and 62% involved a drunk driver with a BAC of 0.15 or more.
